BLOOD AND BONES : TEASER

Many a times, we have witnessed a good blog transforming into a successful book. Some of the most evident examples are: “This is why you are fat” from Jessica Amason or “Twitter Wit” from Nick Douglas, which instantly became best sellers. No doubt, this maneuver is perfect in its own. But today, I’ll be taking a road much less trodden. I’ll be trying to implement a novel written by me in the form of a bi-weekly blog. To be honest, there won’t be any graphics or audio that will make this blog visually appealing but, its content will make up for all the lack of luster, I guarantee.
Novels are great. We sit down with a coffee mug and in a single or few multiple long stretches of time, we reach the end of the novel to find out who was the murderer or the marauder (in most cases). Let’s admit it though, many of us don’t have that amount of time or at times we feel disappointed when the adrenaline rush plummets after a classic thriller ends in just a few days. We all want something that maintains the hype, leaves us on a cliffhanger, the kind that buys us time to develop our own theories, our own viewpoints, the kind that makes us crave for the dessert and that too by taking a much smaller chunk of time. That’s the exact point of this blog. To put it in a nutshell,

  • Each episode of the novel will be released every second Sunday.
  • Bonus content will be released occasionally in between that will keep your Spidey senses tingling.
  • And the best part, you’ll have to spend as little as 15 minutes in a span of two weeks for a single good read.

So, here I present to you a teaser of the mysterious BLOOD AND BONES...

BLOOD AND BONES

A green caped deserter with a small black purse tied to his waist sprints at his peak. The panting man stops to take shelter inside a loose cave-like structure created by several intersecting rocks and boulders covered in moss. The grim dark jungle whispered a terrible nightmare of pin drop silence. He tried to get a view of what was happening around him through the cracks and crevices between the stones. A patrol party of about 6 well-built people was searching for him like blood thirsty hounds. A stout man shouted, "Find that bastard!” He must be their commander, the man with the purse mulled over while he tried to conceal himself as neatly as possible. They searched rigorously for him but the vast area and the natural hiding places created by Mother Nature in it were no match for them. A Gaboon Viper hiding inside the cave leapt out in defense to bite the deserter on his legs. “Ahhhh!” – he instinctively grunted. Vigilant senses of Scarface felt the grunt. Scarface was tall, dark and wore a red long coat with white pajamas, the official uniform of the Executioners. 'Misery's End' -  A broad curved sword which was a testimony to dozens of beheadings was tucked inside his coat. Scarface moved closer to the cave, with his sword ready at bay. The deserter held his breath so as to not give away any tip of his position. Ironically, as soon as his throat went dry, droplets of water started appearing on his forehead.  Scarface was about to peek inside the cave when out of darkness a half-curved blade about the size of a palm came swooshing right to his throat. Somehow, the sound of the small blade had completely overpowered the dead silence. Blood started flowing from his throat that gently seeped into the small cave. The stout commander came forward, to have a look at the blade with hesitation.  What he saw made him stiff on the place. He somehow knew that the breath he took might just be his last. A second blade came cutting across the vegetation, and the commander dropped dead. Then came a third, and then a fourth… The patrol party was turned into mere pieces of meat in seconds.  The eloper went white in fear as the green grass was painted red. He felt something wet in his bottoms that wasn’t blood.
A hooded man descended on the ground as the eloper came out of concealment nervously.  The warrior wore a grey robe with pieces of white silk strips covering his legs. A piece of red cloth was tied around his waist like a belt. A hood covered more than one-quarter of his face. Several kinds of blades and small knives were tucked inside his robe and belt. With a charismatic style the warrior walked towards the deserter while tossing a blade in the air and catching it back. A terrified look was clear in the reflection of the shiny blades that the warrior carried.  The deserter inquired hesitatingly, “Who are you? And why did you save me?". A wicked smile appeared on the warrior’s face.  The warrior took out a small knife from his robe and started to move slowly towards him. It felt like the Shadow of Death itself came to collect its due. The deserter wanted to move, he wanted to fight back, he wanted to take an action, any action but he couldn’t. The warrior’s control over the situation was so horrifying that it seemed as if everything was happening as per his command. The deserter felt a knife slowly piercing right through the middle of his heart.  He felt life being sucked out of his body. He saw light leaving his eyes. The last thing he saw was a geometric figure on the blade that he couldn’t recognize.  It was a triangle with a horizontal line parallel to the base intersecting both the other sides. The warrior pulled out the knife, wiped it clean with the dead man's cape and cut the strap that tied the black purse. He opened the purse to peek what was inside. It was THE CUBE.
